Lately, the most intriguing question to answer is “what is the ideal fuel for future engines?” The combustion performance and potential pollutant yields of a particular fuel are dictated by the physical and kinetic properties of the fuel constituents, which in turn depend on their molecular structure. Our goal is to enable AI-based fuel design, with specific focus on an advanced engine fuel formulation strategy based on first principles and data-driven approaches. This seminar presents a methodology that can be applied to better understand the combustion of real-world fuels in their respective technologies while leveraging AI techniques. Specific examples of designing fuels for high efficiency engines and alternative renewable fuels will be presented.
