Low Emission Combustor Technologies for Gas Turbine Engine

India Section

Full Description

Abstract

Gas turbine is one of the most widely used internal combustion engine which is being used profusely for power generation, aircraft and rocket propulsion, automobile both jet marine propulsion, etc. However these gas turbine engines emit various pollutants in the form of NOx, CO2, CO, UHC, SOx , particulates and smoke in the vicinity of operation areas which are of great concern for environment and people. As a result, these emissions are considered to be responsible for health hazard, global warming and climate change due to modification in the chemical and microphysical properties of the atmosphere. Hence several efforts are being made to develop low emission technologies for gas turbine engine by various researchers and technocrats across the globe, In this lecture several low emission gas turbine engine technologies namely Richburn Quickquench Leanburn (RQL), Dual Annual Combustor (DAC), Trapper Vortex Combustor (TVC), Lean Prevaporized Premixed (LPP), Twin Annular Premixed Combustor (TAPC), Lean Direct Injection (LDI), Multiple Lean Direct Injection (MLDI), Variable Geometry Combustor (VGC) and others by covering their respective working principle, advantages and disadvantages. An attempt will be made to spell out certain future research needs that can be helpful for developing low emission gas turbine engines.
